Renowned for its spectacular autumn colour the Maidenhair Tree or Gingko Biloba makes for a remarkable feature in your garden. The common name of maidenhair tree pertains to the similarity of the leaves to those of maidenhair ferns. It is well suited to container growing where it will live happily for many years with minimal attention and occasional feeding. It is remarkably easy to care for and will grow in most conditions from sun through to shade. A hardy tree with fan-shaped greenish-yellow leaves composed of two or more distinct lobes hence the Latin species name biloba that will make a great focal point on your patio or in a courtyard . In autumn the leaves of Maidenhair Tree turn a beautiful golden hue before falling to the ground.Flowering period: AprSowing months: Jan-DecHeight: 3.6-7.2mTo pot up:Use a good quality multi-purpose compost and add 10% grit to this. Top up each spring with a small amount of slow release fertiliser and make sure the pot has good drainage holes and stand it on feet or tiles to allow free drainage through the bottom of the pot. Remember to keep it well watered when in full leaf and do not rely on the rain as most of the water will be shed away from the pot by the tree
